Hi, I am Wendy aka MamaBee. Welcome to my little corner of the”interwebs”. Thank you so much for stopping by!
I am a former (and maybe future) opera singer married to Adrian and mama to two very active little boys. Our family was woven together through adoption and through a very welcome but unexpected pregnancy. Our family celebrates our son’s birth country of Ethiopia, reflects our rural roots in Amish country Pennsylvania (Wendy) and small town Louisiana (Adrian), and has been shaped by our nearly 20 years living in Boston and then New York City. On any given day you may find us frying Ethiopian sambussas, simmering red beans and rice, running around the closest playground, and tackling DIY home renovation projects.
During the day I am a non-profit executive and on the weekends (and late at night and early in the morning and whenever I can find a few minutes:-) I sew, tile, build, sand, paint, tie dye, design, and otherwise take on creative projects to make our house a home and to unleash my creative side. I think butter makes everything taste better, never turn down gelato, and believe popcorn is its own food group.
After 10 years in New York City we are selling our apartment and moving across the state for Adrian to attend medical school. We bought an adorable 1937 Cape Cod house that has “great potential” and space for our boys to run. We plan to strip wallpaper, paint every wall in the house, refinish the floors, tackle several construction projects, gut renovate the kitchen and install a new IKEA kitchen, refresh the bathroom, and convert the current unfinished basement into a family room, playroom, craft room, and bathroom/laundry room. We also plan to build furniture and refurbish some craigslist finds to create a fabulous thriving home that reflects our personalities and experiences.
MamaBeeMakes is our journey as we relocate our family, learn how to use power tools, connect through social media, adjust to life outside of Manhattan, and try to recreate some of our favorite recipes and experiences from New York City and around the world in our new home.
We have a mortgage to close, design boards to create, furniture to build, projects to timeline, and recipes to research, and I am sure you have things to do and share as well.
Let’s get started!
